My latest space-opera story, “Realm of the Shorn,” is up at The Sunday Morning Transport.
It’s an Indigenous futurist tale about choosing the future, even when it costs everything, featuring two queer Mexica characters from the 16th century (one pansexual, one patlacheh, what we’d term a trans man).
Content warning: Aside from multiple dimensions and advanced technology, the story contains intense descriptions of a smallpox epidemic and discussion of honor-based, military ritual suicide.
This one is essentially the origin story of the Midwife, the best character I’ve ever created, who appears in a series of stories I’ve had published over the past four years.
If you’ve never read The Sunday Morning Transcript, here is a link to a 60-day free subscription, which will allow you to read the rest of the Midwife stories & more! The story-a-week publication is the brainchild of Julian Yap, one of the founders of the audio entertainment company REALM.
